Man that is brilliant! This sure deserve a thumbs up. I'm going to try the trick on some customer service who takes pleasure in going round in circle instead of providing the service they claim they are providing. It is just as bad for your credit to have a dormant card. Better to get rid of it in my opinion.

I had a card for about 2 years as well and canceled it. My credit score immediately dropped 30 points. As Eric said, I'd suggest you zero out the balance and physically destroy the card unless you're not concerned about a significant hit to you credit score. Not good for your credit to cancel a card. Length of time holding the credit card is reported to the credit bureau. better to keep the account open but just cut up the card.
