Many people who are trying to rebuild their credit often wish that their debt would just disappear. Most of them wish that they’d never made the mistakes of their early life and spent thousands on credit cards, accumulating debt, to buy luxury items that they just simply didn’t need.
But of course, all wishes can’t come true and now that the damage has been done, there’s nothing you can do, except to deal with it the best possible manner. You should learn from the mistakes, and move on, slowly making your monthly payments and rebuilding your credit.
Debt Negotiation
You may have seen some advertisements related to a service known as debt negotiation. It is an alternative approach to debt repayment and debt consolidation, and has gained popularity in the last few months. The main idea behind debt negotiation is very simply, you ask for your debts to go away, and the best part is that they really do away!
Well, it might not be as simple as that, but it’s close! Debt negotiation, just like debt consolidation, involves the hiring of a intermediate service, which in this case, is the debt negotiation service.
A freeze is placed upon your outstanding accounts, once you enter into a deal with a debt negotiation service. This may provides some temporary relief from the harassment by credit card companies and other creditors.
Negotiation Fee
You won’t be paying these creditors, while you’re in negotiation. Instead, you will be paying a monthly negotiation fee to the intermediate company. This fee will be deposited into a central account, and then will be distributed between the negotiation service hired as a fee, and the repayment of the reduced debts negotiated by the negotiation service.
How Does This Work?
Suppose that you have an outstanding debt of 10,000 dollars, which you owe to a credit card company. And it has been quite some time since you haven’t paid this company. The credit card company might be quite desperate by now to get their money back. And if a debt negotiation service approaches them and offers an immediate payment of say, 2500 dollars, the credit company may be more than willing to getting back the amount which is available rather then waiting for your entire 10,000 dollars.
Thus, most creditors will eagerly accept a reduced payment in the form of a one time lump sum, so that they can drop your case, and stop having to hassle with the collections process.
If you go for debt negotiation, it can reduce your debt to about 25% of its current total. It can be a fabulous deal for you, offering you a future free from debt. If you have opted for debt consolidation and it has not worked for you, debt negotiation offers a new frontier in debt repayment.
