15 Debt Settlement Companies under investigation in New York

Posted on 05 November 2009

There are many hideous debt companies that charge customers more than the actual price for their services, which at times is not reliable, troublesome, and cause customers to land themselves more in debts rather than to get out of it. Now that this malpractice has come into the limelight, many US states are crackling down on these cheating debt settlement firms. New York State’s attorney General, Andrew Cuomo, announced an investigation that had many companies charged with cheating, already trapped customers, with sky high prices. The following names that are given below are companies that have been cracked down on by the state, as per customer complaints.

Now with the increase in debt related problems, there are also as much companies springing up claiming to provide debt consolidations, or debt relief which in actual is just a profitable business for these companies. More than 2000 companies alone provide debt relief options, but there are a very few of them who actually help out customers. The rest are all money monger gurus, who play with people’s already weak economy. To avoid all these hassles, it is best that you read each document carefully before signing for any deal, and before venturing to be a part of any company gain information about them from legal attorneys, research and investigate thoroughly. And always plan your strategies effectively, for a proper way to handle your debt problems.

Debt Settlement USA just laid off a third of their workers .

  3. I have been with American Debt Foundation for about a year. I have $32,000 in debt I wanted them to handle. They said I must send them $364.43/mo. From this $364.43 they took $134.38 and just recently started to take $37.00/mo. This $37.00/mo. is for (as they say) “NEWS ARTICLE”.
If you add the $134.38 and $37.00 you get $171.38. which leaves $193.05.
Now how can a debt of $32,000 be paid off on the 44 month plan they put me on? Also this $37.00/mo. fee was NEVER authorized by me. Also I was to get a monthly statement on my account from them and got only one all the time I was with them. Had I known this from the start I NEVER would have gone with American Debt Foundation. They care only about getting money from your account. They are nothing but a scam for the American public. They should not be allowed to stay in business.
