Why should we throw away phenomenal amounts of money by buying new things? The same thing which we could shop second-hand.

What are those things that you should never buy new?

What I think is that there are some items that you should always buy second hand. So I have mentioned those things below:

1. Books, magazines, DVDs

That is the fact that we all know. We read most of the books once only, and then it just remains there on our bookshelves for years. So you should try to borrow them from the library, or buy second-hand. Even you can buy the latest best-sellers for less online.

You can buy this month’s magazines online or at op shops not long after going on sale. And most people usually watch DVDs for just two to three times, so try and pick up second-hand DVDs online or from an op shop.

2. Spare parts.

Manufacturers usually sell spare parts at high prices, but the same spare parts you can buy second-hand.

For instance, a Blackberry AC charger is priced at $79.95 plus $6.75 delivery if you buy it from Vodafone New Zealand, but you can get the same charger for almost $12 from auction websites such as Trade Me and Zillion. In fact, you can buy any spares parts you need second-hand. Whether a car spare parts or any household machine parts.

3. Cars.

The motor industry may give several statements to make you believe that old cars are uncool, unsafe and unreliable. The fact is that the average new car after using three years can cost you $10,000 or more over in depreciation, servicing and so on.

4. Furniture.

If you try a little you would be able to find great second-hand furniture at bargain basement prices, especially from those people who are leaving the country. You can have an IKEA sofa for  almost $160. But if you want to buy a new one then even the cheapest and nastiest sofas can cost $500.

5. Homewares.

Just like furniture, there are many other homewares that you can buy second hand.

You can buy all of those little knick-knacks, kitchen items, and rugs that people have around their homes second-hand. In fact there are many interior designers who use to buy second-hand items, too.

6. Kids’ toys.

Virtually you can buy every toy ever made second-hand for a fraction of its new price. As parents are aware of the fact that most toys get very little use. You can find several little-used kids’ toys in garage sales and school fairs. So why not to buy from there?

7. Baby items.

New parents buy several baby items for their babies. Babies grow so fast that much of it remains unused when they’re finish with it. So you can buy second hand baby items too.

8. Property — Especially apartments.

Usually new homes and apartments drop in value very soon. That’s due to the reason that the building and marketing costs are factored into the purchase price.

So why not let someone else bear the first loss and you may purchase the bargain second time round?

9. Timeshares

For many people aren’t on the top of the must-have list, but if you opt to buy them on the open market from websites such as Timeshare.co.nz, Redseason.co.nz or Monad.co.nz, you’ll have to pay half of the new price, which makes them a real bargain.

10. Gardening supplies.

You can also pick up the gardening supplies such as stones, wood and other items for free. It is also very easy to buy second-hand Hedge trimmers and lawnmowers .

So now what do you think? In this tight economic situations do we have that much money that we can waste on buying new things, although we can get the same things second hand.

So tell me, from now what you are going to do with the above mentioned things? Will you buy them new or will you buy second hand?
