Posted on 18 December 2009

Renting is not always good for everything but there are few things that you should always rent. Here I have mentioned 5 things that you should always rent.

1. Pickup trucks.

If you’re a cowboy or you are working for any construction company, then you get a pass. But other people should think twice before buying a truck as they should think that how much they actually use the trucks.

If you need a pickup only for a few times a year, then you should rent one and instead of that you should buy a car that gets decent gas mileage.

2. Vacation homes.

This happens to many people that when they visit a beautiful place, they love that place so much that they start thinking about owning a little cottage there. Just stop thinking in that way. It is not an easy task to own two homes at a time.

Both of them will have to be maintained, repaired and insured, but the second one you buy will be empty for long periods. As you don’t go on vacations every month. So as no one would be there to notice, things can go terribly wrong like bursting pipes, rat infestations, termite damage, etc.

And if it’s not sitting empty, then possibly some strangers might be using it. So don’t create any trouble for you and let other people deal with the hassle and whenever you visit a place you should rent vacation homes there.

3. Anything you use once a year or less.

Floor buffer? Lawn aerator? Power washer? Don’t you think so that they are really expensive power tools? If you are taking them out annually or less, then rather tan buying them it’s usually better to rent.

There are many other appliances that you use less often, so for them you should start thinking about sharing or swapping with a neighbor. For instance, you may buy a carpet steamer together, or you could get the steamer and she could get the sewing machine and both of you can use them once or twice a year.

4. DVDs.

Yes, I know they’re cheap, but how many times you would watch the same movie? If you’ve got kids and it’s a Disney flick, the math works, then you may buy them but for other DVDs, sign up for Netflix.

5. The next car you plan to buy.

This won’t work always, as the nation’s rental agencies don’t keep the stocks of every conceivable car. But if you really want to drive the vehicle around for a few days without a salesman yapping in your ear then there is no better idea then renting the car for few days.
