Life is not as complicated as it was for you during college only if you keep a few points in your mind regarding managing your finances. If you do this you can get through an an entire life of financial management. These tips are explained below:
Follow a budget
Budgeting is the first and foremost requirement from any individual who has started earning a living on their own. If you do not maintain a budget then you wouldn’t know where you are spending your money on and whether you are spending more than you income. Budgeting is not only for those in debt and could be used by everyone as a helpful tool in analyzing your expenses. Therefore, its very essential that you make a budget for a period of 15 days or a month minimum and keep a track of your expenditure.

Read atleast one financial book between now and your first day at college
There is no better guide than a book. If you parents do not teach your how to manage your finances then life would become difficult for you. However, if you have a habit of reading then it would be recommended that you read a book on managing personal finance so that you could a know how of how things operate in the financial world and where you could save your money if possible. Reading would provide you with the insight of things which you previously might not be aware of.
Seek to overcome materialism and consumerism
This explains to get a hold of yourself and not spend on what’s not necessary for you. If today you don’t initiate and get a strong hold of yourself then tomorrow you would not be able to stop yourself from overspending. Spending is preferred, but overspending is a wrong doing. If you spend just in order to be accepted at some place then get over the materialism and think of the real world.
Don’t do anything with money that you don’t understand
Find people who can guide you on the right path and not those who could fool you and get money out of you. If people try and sell something to you which you are not aware off then stay away from it because people exactly know how to get money out of you and keeping a strong hold of yourself is the way to go about it.
Do something meaningful before life’s responsibilities weigh you down.
As you grow up, your parents start putting responsibilities on you. In this situation if you take some time off and try to follow your dream then you might go onto thank your self for life. This does not mean go out there and something stupid, it means doing something productive which could help you reap some benefits. Some sort of risks need to be taken and if they are taken at an early age then you would have your whole life for picking up the pieces if it did not work out.
Save 10% of every paycheck.
Spending every single penny of what you earn is not wise enough as at some time you might require money for which you need to save. This would only be true if every month you save a certain percentage of your income. This is nothing fancy but a simple process, just set aside a 10% minimum of your paycheck into a savings account or into some asset so you could save some money rather than spending all of it.
If you are ever in a place where you can’t pay off a credit card, then just cut it up.
Do not keep on piling debt, if you think you cant pay the debt then stop piling more for yourself which might go on creating problems for you. If you own handsome amount of money on your credit card then start paying it off slowly and in amounts possible but at the same time cut up on your debt. Do not use the credit card anymore and put an end to using credit.

My favorite one here is saving 10% of every paycheck. It’s simple to do and can add up to a ton of savins.
I would even say to try to save 20% and see if you can manage that. If it doesn’t work, you can always work your way down to 10%, but why not start big?
